Week 30/31 - Pregnancy, holidays, heat, kids

Posted by on in Pregnant

We are just back from beautiful sunny Spain. We had a great break, however I have to say I was ready for home towards the end.

It hit 43 degrees one day which was too hot for any pregnant lady. We had to stay in that evening as it was just like hair dryers on the highest heat blowing hot air at me.

Week 29/30 - A little practice

Posted by on in Pregnant

As we are out of the baby stage in our house, my sister thought I could do with a bit of re-training and dropped her little girl (17 months) over to me for an afternoon.

She had a nap and was happy to come to me and didn't make strange....great start I thought then she started making funny faces at me. I had totally forgotten the concentration when a child's poo was coming. It had been a while since I changed a nappy and she sure did make the first one I had to do in a while a memorable one.

Week 27/28 - Making time for myself!

Posted by on in Pregnant

Still loving the weather. If only Ireland was like this every summer, we wouldn't feel the need to go anywhere.
We are just back from beautiful west Cork. We did a house swap with one of my friends. I think hotels are now overrated in terms of going for a break with the children. It would be a different story  it was just myself and hubbie of course.

It's so exciting for the children, going to someone elses house playing with their toys, sleeping in their bunk beds etc. and the big bonus is.....you don't have to pay for the privilege.

Naughty Step Tips (what works for me!)

Posted by on in Parenting

Before becoming a Dad, for some reason I used to watch the Channel 4 show, ‘Supernanny’ with Jo Frost. I don’t think I really did so to prepare for becoming a parent. I was simply fascinated with the transformation from bold to pleasant, well behaved child.

It was through this programme that I learnt of the naughty step, a disciplinary technique that Jo appeared to use in every episode. At the time I said to myself that if I ever had children, I would definitely use it.

Week 26 and it's getting hot!

Posted by on in Pregnant

Absolutely loving the weather at the moment! The children are outdoors, having fun, BBQ's on the go and everyone seems to be in great form. The weather really does make people happy!

I have managed to get a really bad ear infection though. Had to go on antibiotics which I don't like doing while I'm Pregnant but it is the only way to get rid of the excrutiating pain. Am also taking paracetomol until the pain subsides.

My Pregnancy - Week 24/25

Posted by on in Uncategorized

The time is flying by now and rather than just looking fat, I'm really looking pregnant. My hips, tighs and bum and starting to get into proportion with my bump and the rest of my body now.

Apart from Low Blood Pressure, I am feeling good. I went to a concert this week, went out for dinner, went for walks, swims and caught up with some friends along with lots of work and plenty of family time so all in all I'm doing well. The only thing I have to watch out for is when I'm sitting down and get up that i'm not getting up too fast. I get really dizzy and faint so need to just take things a bit easier.

I noticed my bump move this week which I thought was really early but it was great for the children to see it and again lovely for reassurance.

Had my check up  with the doctor and heard the baby's heartbeat. I had all my checks and everything is fine. Enjoying the nice weather now without being swollen or too hot (for now anyways)

Until next time.....

Posted by on in Parenting

Do you ever have one of those weeks that have gone by in a blur? Partly due to being busy but mainly due to lack of sleep?

Well I'm in the middle of one of those weeks.

My pregnancy week 22/23

Week 22/23

Feeling good this week. Managed a swim, yoga and a few short walks. I am determined to be fit for labour.
It definitely helped on the last two labours so I'm going to follow suit and hope ill get the same results - good labours, no epidural,no tears and healthy babies etc.
So this week my little boy told me we were having a boy and we should call him Douglas! I wondered where did the name Douglas come from and when I was reading to him going to bed that night.
One of the Thomas the tank trains are Douglas! They are gas where they get their little thoughts from.
I started thinking about my birth preference so here are my thoughts so far:

Week 21

Feeling good this week, just need to stop eating so much rubbish (chocolate easter eggs still in the house) I made rice krispie buns and chocolate biscuit cake this week to try and reduce the stash but there is still loads left. At the rate I'm going, it won't be there for too much longer.

Had the anomoly scan this week. I was so excited in the run up to it and then when I got into the waiting room I got really anxious thinking what if there is a problem, what if they tell me there is something wrong with the baby? Thankfully I didn't have too long to wait and was greeted by the nicest sonographer who made me feel at ease the minute she turned on the monitor.

Week 20

Yahoooo....half way there!!

Wasn't feeling too bad this week. Definately felt the baby moving and the children are coming up with wierd and wacky names every day, shouting into my belly button waiting for a reaction from the baby.

Ended up in the doctors during the week as I thought i had SPD (pelvic pain) well I won't make a doctor anyways as I misdiagnosed myself. I have a hernia. He said once the baby moves position, the area won't be as pressurised. Low and behold the following day I was as right as rain.

Looking forward to going for my anomoly scan next week.

My Pregnancy

Posted by on in Pregnant

this post will bring you up to speed on where I am now, heading into my 20th week.....

Week 13.
Trip to rotunda, going public this time and expected it would take some time for first appointment. I met a lovely midwife who went through all my history, had bloods taken and finally got to see our baby. Feel so much better to see our baby bouncing around. All looked good, I was so looking forward to getting home to telling the children. My plan was to show them the scan and asked them if they knew what it was. They hadn't a clue so I told them mammy has a baby in her tummy and it will be coming after they go to school and Montessori in the autumn time!
Their response was yahoo we are going to get bunk beds!!! Bless

My Backround

I am a mam of two little messers who are the apples of my eye. My little girl is almost 5 and my  boy is 3. They are great craic altogether but things can get hectic between working outside the home, having a home to run with my husband, his work and day to day activities that need to be done such as cleaning, cooking, washing etc (all the boring stuff but someone's gotta do it and unfortunately the budget doesn't allow for a cleaner)

I love having quality time with my friends and family. It is so nice to have a plan in the pipeline whether it is a night away with the girls or a catch up with family.

The crack of dawn! (almost)

Posted by on in Dads

ok so we put the kids to bed generally between 7.30 and 8 most nights. The ‘downside’ to this is that they tend to wake early. But why oh why for the last 2 mornings have they been up at 7am??

N strolled into me this morning at 7:01 am with her bunny, jake and the neverland pirates book and a cup of water in hand. Bleary-eyed and groggy-voiced I asked told her to get back into bed for another half hour or so. Surprisingly enough she turned around and walked back into her room without an argument and I heard her climbing into bed. Great!

48 seconds later, she comes back into my room with the same bunny, book and water combo as the first time. “Is this 30 minutes” she says…..knowing full well it’s not!

We repeated the process 3 times which took us up to 7:06am, when I gave in and let her hop into bed. And so began 20 minutes of me reading the Jake book to N and bunny.

In the other room B was happily telling me how his nappy was full of poo. At that stage it was time to get up.

The day was only but a pup……
